Collective Vision Quest
A vision quest is time taken in nature by yourself for the purpose of receiving a vision for yourself and your people. While not everyone can be outside in nature, quests can be done inside as well with intention. Perhaps the message of the corona virus to us all is that it is time for a collective vision quest to revision our lives and our world. Everyone seems to agree that we will not be returning to the same world we left when we began staying home and social distancing. It became clear to me that social distancing is the most important thing right now, maybe because it will stop the virus or maybe because we all need a time out from life as we have known it to envision what life we wish to create.
It is easy to see all that was not working well in the old world. Earth has been trying to warn us with storms and winds that disrupt business as usual. Apparently, that was not enough for us to let go of the world we have known and participate in the creation of a new way, a New Earth, where collaboration and co-creation are guiding principles and unity is a common understanding. I always wondered what it would take to create an evolutionary leap in the world. It seems to happen in the time of natural disasters but those are often isolated events. When many people go through the same experience at the same time, polarities begin to dissolve and what is truly important begins to rise to the forefront. Those important things become the foundation for the New Earth.
While some people are still living by the rules of the old life – competition, separation, and looking out for only themselves – many are embracing the New Earth – looking out for each other, sharing their gifts, and connecting with others even if from a distance. I have enjoyed those in the grocery store that are helpful and strangers smiling at each other. We are all in this together.
So perhaps we can take this pause in life to spend quiet time in nature or indoors, to vision a life and society that is more sustainable and loving. Write a story about what your day might be like. How would education change? How would economics change? How would communities change? How would work change? How would food production change? How would health care change? How would international trade change? How would government change? How would leadership change? How would our relationships change? How would humanity’s relationship with nature change? The more energy we put into visioning and dreaming the world we would like to see right now, the more powerful we become in co-creating this world together.
